Call 4 Concern is a new hospital initiative giving 24/7 access to a specialist critical care nurse.
The role of the critical care outreach nurse is to ensure that critically ill patients or those at risk of becoming so, receive the right treatment as quickly as possible in the most suitable location in the hospital.
If you are worried that you, a relative or young person is deteriorating, despite treatment, or feel your concerns are not being recognised by the ward teams you can call our service.
Laura Wishart, critical care outreach lead nurse, said: “We believe that patients and family members know when their condition or that of a loved one is changing for the worse.
“Call 4 Concern gives access to a critical care outreach nurse who will respond to critically ill and life threatening situations by recognising and responding to early signs of deterioration.”
While the service is not to report general issues or problems, it will provide a key contact of support and help for patients and their loved ones in critical situations.
When can I make a call to C4C?
- If you are worried that you, your relative or young person/friend admitted to hospital are deteriorating (becoming more unwell despite treatment).
- If you feel your concerns are not being recognised by the nurse or ward doctor and acted upon and the patient is deteriorating, then you can directly call our team.
- If you have been a patient in critical care on the admission and you are experiencing difficulties and your concerns are not be appropriately acknowledged (listened to).

When NOT to call
The service is not to report general issues or problems which can be resolved or de-escalated at ward level by the primary team. This may include issues with:
- Parking
- Visiting times
- Hospital food
- Hospital cleanliness
- Complaints
- Any other general issues
