Our maternity services and digital team have now completed the first stage rollout of a new online electronic system aimed at giving mums-to-be more control of their pregnancy records and care notes.
Badger Notes maternity system has now been in operation within antenatal and community maternity departments for three weeks and will be launching in acute services next week.
Developed by Clevermed, the system has begun to improve the quality of care for patients across Hartlepool, Stockton and the wider Tees Valley and allows staff to do deliver more efficient care.
Feedback from staff from the first stage of the rollout has been brilliant, with the new Badger system making appointments, observations and cross-site care easier than ever.
Some of the staff feedback received so far:
“The implementation has gone fantastically well and has been really well received by staff and patients. There has been a little bit of a learning curve for colleagues, but everyone has really been taking the new system on board and transitioning well.
“We’re already starting to see the benefits of the new system. For our mums-to-be now, they’re all on the Badger Notes system and their information is instantly there at the click of a button.
“We’ve already seen how it’s reduced down on fact finding and hunting of notes. Even women who may have been for an appointment at a neighbouring Trust already has all their notes to hand, improving their safety and allowing us to focus on delivering the very best care.
“It’s totally amazing having everything there.”

“It’s a really good system. I’ve literally just taken a call from a colleague across at our Hartlepool site who is with a patient who has had a CCG. I’ve just been able to pop it up onto my iPad screen and have been able to discuss and give them advice.
“This is brilliant as it saves on that patient having to have a second repeat appointment and CCG done across at our North Tees clinic. We have been able to have her seen and sorted at the very first appointment.”

“I can already see it’s making our lives easier. It enables us to access all our patients history in one place and we can enter screening results into the system for women to see instantaneously.
“We can also offer individualised advice – so if parent and baby are screened for a particular test, we can forward a patient leaflet through the app, so they can read the information they need to make an informed choice about their pregnancy.”

“We can already see how the system will help to reduce paper waste and will help to automate some of the administrative parts of the job – such as being able to click a button to automatically send a letter to the patients GP.
